Founded in 1992, the Caddo Lake Institute is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization now in its 33rd year of protecting one of America’s most significant wetlands — Caddo Lake.

Caddo Lake is an internationally recognized Ramsar Wetland of Importance spanning the Texas-Louisiana border. Our work focuses on restoring healthy water flows, improving water quality throughout the watershed, reintroducing native species like the paddlefish, controlling invasive species, and conserving lands critical to the lake’s long-term ecological health. Fiscal Year 2025 was one of the most consequential years in our history, as we advanced critical science and mobilized experts across two states to defend Caddo Lake’s water future against an unprecedented threat. We work in close partnership with local communities, scientists, government agencies — including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries — and leading foundations to monitor conditions, safeguard natural resources, and ensure that Caddo Lake’s ecological integrity and natural beauty endure for generations to come.
